Year 3
Welcome to Year 3!
Our teacher is: Mr Lambrou
Our teaching assistant is: Mrs Pearson
Welcome to our Year 3 class blog. We hope you find this page a useful tool to keep up with everything that we are getting up to this year in Year 3.
Look below to see all of the MARVELLOUS things we have been getting up to in class.
All the best,
Mr Lambrou & Mrs Pearson
Spring 2 - Easter Egg Hunt:
As it was the last day of term before we broke up for the Easter holiday we were surprised today with an Easter Egg hunt. We had to search around the playground for an egg with our names on. We could then exchange these for our very own Easter Eggs. We had a wonderful time and we could not wait to eat all of our chocolate over the holiday!
Spring 2 - Religious Education:
Continuing to explore what it means to be Christian in Britain today, we had to think about the significance of one of our Church rituals that we covered during a previous lesson. During today's lesson, we explore the importance of Holy Communion. We discovered that Holy Communion represents the last supper where Jesus broke bread and told his disciples that it was his body and poured wine telling his disciples that it represented his blood. We learnt the different traditions when receiving Holy Communion and then practiced together as a class. We each tried some grape juice (some of us liked this more than others) and broke bread together in remembrance of Jesus' sacrifice.
Spring 2 - Religious Education:
During our RE lessons this half-term, we have been thinking about what it means to be a Christian in Britain today! As part of our learning, we had to think about how Christians show their faith in places of worship. We had to develop our own freeze-frames displaying common ways that Christians show their faith in church. Can you guess what each free frame is showing?
Spring 2 - PE:
This half-term, Mr Pratt has been teaching us the skills needed to play volleyball. We have had fun learning how to travel, pass and apply a range of different skills to a game situation. We learnt the different rules and were able to work together as different teams to try and be successful!
Spring 2 - Art:
Continuing our art until focussing on drawing with charcoal, we took a journey back several thousands of years to the time of the Stone Age! We had to use the charcoal to develop our own cave drawings of our hands using our smudging techniques to add depth and texture to our own work.
Spring 2 - Art:
During art this half-term, we have been looking at drawing using charcoal. We had to begin by developing our mark making skills. This was a fun and messy process. We had to first develop our mark making before we then had to smudge our charcoal to create different textures and patterns. As you can see from the photos below, we loved the effect the charcoal made!
Spring 2 - Ben Collins comes to visit:
We were in for another special treat as we were visited by professional boxer and Brierley Hill local Ben Collins. He talked us through his career so far and even announced that he would be fighting live on Pay-Per-View for TNT Sports. He invited us to get involved in local boxing clubs, which some us our team have already done!
Spring 1 - Valentine's Disco:
Love was in the air as we celebrated Valentine's Day. The children celebrated with their annual Valentine's disco. There was lots of laughter and sugar and we all had a wonderful time!
Spring 1 - School Football Week:
This half-term, we were very lucky to have the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate national school football week. Each class in our school was given a different team to represent and were delighted to be given the best football team in the West Midlands... BIRMINGHAM CITY!
We were lucky to take part in many different activities such as:
- A visit from women's footballer Chloe Handy.
- A visit from Salford City and Jamaica international footballer Curtis Tilt
- A visit from Stourbridge Football Club physio Richard Drewett.
- A visit from professional referee Brad Totney to discuss the rules of the game.
- Developing our own fact files for the boys in Royal Blue!
Spring 1 - PE:
We have once again had the pleasure of working with Mr Pratt for our PE this half-term. We have been learning how to participate in the sport of gymnastics. We have learnt a variety of rolls, balances and different ways to travel in order to develop our skills.
Spring 1 - Maths:
During our maths this half-term, we have been learning all about multiplication and division! We have had to use our place value counters to share into equal groups.
Autumn 2 - Christmas Cards
To celebrate Christmas this year, we decided to complete a class DT project! We developed our textile skills to create our own Christmas card designs! We hope that they brought a smile to your faces and brightened your festive season! Have a look below for some pictures of us in action!
Autumn 2 - Special Visitors:
We had some special visitors in to speak to us about life in football. Donato Nardiello told us about his career with Coventry city and playing internationally for Wales. Anne Ross told us the struggle for women in football and her career playing for Birmingham City womens. They then told us about how they both were later, in the police force! We even found out that Anne was Mr Ross's mom! Did you know that Donato's son was once a youth footballer for Manchester United?
Autumn 2 - Children in Need:
As part of our schools effort to raise money for Children in Need, we all took part in Pudsey's Bearpee Challenge. Our goal was simple, we had to complete as many burpees as a class throughout the week. It was challenging and we were very tired at the end, but it was for a fantastic cause!
Autumn 2 - Science:
Continuing our science topic this half-term about animals including humans, we began to look at the bones and muscles of the human body. We made models demonstrating how muscles are able to relax and contract when parts of the body extend or tense.
Autumn 2 - Science:
This half-term, we have been learning about animals including humans. We have been learning about the difference between vertebrates and invertebrates. Did you know that vertebrates are animals that have a backbone? We enjoyed showing Mr Dudley our work when he popped in for a visit!
Autumn 2 - PE:
During our PE this half term, we have been working with Mr Pratt. Our topic has been dance. He has been teaching us different skills and moves that we could apply to Banghra dancing! We have had such an amazing time and we have enjoyed linking the different moves together to create a short sequence.
Autumn 2 - Religious Education:
This half term, we have been looking at why the Bible is so important to Christians. As part of our learning, we had to consider which values were important to us and why they might also be important to Christians. We had to collaborate in groups to rank each value. It gave us the opportunity to share our own viewpoints and have a sensible discussion about what is important to us!
Autumn 2 - Spanish:
In Year 3, we begin to learn to read, speak and understand Spanish. To start this year, we have had to practice introducing ourselves. We had to say our name, ask a partner how they were and say a farewell greeting. See below for one of our examples!

Autumn 1 - Halloween Disco:
Spooky season was upon us in Year 3! To celebrate a term of fantastic work we had our annual Halloween Disco! The children looked very impressive in their costumes and enjoyed the opportunity to relax, have fun and show off their dance moves!
Autumn 1 - Adam Finch:
We were lucky enough to have professional cricketer Adam Finch come in to talk to the children. They enjoyed listening to his stories and asked him lots of great questions. He even bowled a couple of balls at Mr Pratt. Adam then chose two lucky children to have a cricket top!
Autumn 1 - PE:
During our PE this half term, we have been very lucky to have a specialist cricket coach come in and share their expertise and experience with us. Jamie has taught us many different skills which we are hoping we can apply into different cricket scenarios.
Autumn 1 - Music:
During our music this half term we are following the charango music scheme. Our topic for this half-term is: Writing Music Down. As part of our unit, we have the opportunity to practice using the xylophones to practice and combine musical notes.
Autumn 1 - PSHE:
During our PSHE lessons this half term we have been looking at the difference between secrecy and privacy. We had to think about how we would feel if our secrets were stolen. We then put all of our secrets into a secret jar which was put in a safe space on our classroom.
Autumn 1 - Maths:
To start this year, we are looking at number and place value. We had to represent numbers up to 1,000 using place value charts. We had to make sure that we were able to represent the correct place value of each digit in a 3 or 4-digit number.
