Canal walk
Today we went on a local canal walk.
All children behaved wonderfully next to the canal and passers-by even commented on how sensible they were!
On our walk we saw lots of wildlife and nature.

Alliteration poetry!

In English we have been writing poetry based on water and canals.
We used a range of techniques to make sure our poetry was interesting and exciting such as alliterations, adjectives and even onomatopoeia.

Are canals the unsung heros of transport?

As part of our new local history PBL topic we have been exploring canals.
We have created canal art, studied artefacts and created some wonderful written pieces including a canal based narrative and a diary of a navvy!

S.A.Ts Party!
As i'm sure your children have told you, we have been completing our Special Agent Training (SATs) these last 2 weeks.
To celebrate completing our mission we shall be having a Special Agent party on Friday 24th May.
Children can come in mufti this day and if you would like to donate any snack/food to the class we would be most grateful.
Thank you,
Miss Browne and Miss Matthews.

Year 2's trip to the ThinkTank

On the 8th April Year 2 visited the ThinkTank.
Whilst there we explored the different floors and learnt lots of interesting facts before taking part in a 'Discover Space' workshop where we helped fix the International Space Station and created our own spacesuit!

Science Day!
Today children took part in a whole school Science day, in which they completed 6 different exciting experiments. Some of these included; creating parachutes, powering cars using balloons and seeing how much weight a boat made of playdoh could hold.

In the Year 2 classroom we were tasked with creating the tallest tower using only dry pasta and blue tack. The winners of the challenge had a tower measuring a whooping 72cm!
Check out some of our creations.

World Book Day 2019!

What a fantastic World Book Day we had this week!
We had some amazing costumes and characters enter our classroom this Thursday.
In the afternoon children took part in a range of activities relating to traditional tales such as Jack and the Beanstalk, The Wizard of Oz and Cinderella.
Children designed castles, wrote character descriptions, created puppets and made artwork relating to the books.

Maths - 3D Shapes

For the last couple of weeks we have been looking at and learning all about 2D and 3D shapes.
Today we investigated the amount of faces, vertices and edges of various 3D shapes.

Project Based Learning - Our wheeled vehicles

As part of our project we also designed and created wheeled vehicles that we thought would improve our local area.
Some of these included a bullet train, police car and even an ice-cream van.
Take a look at our work below.

Outer Space: "Time to Shine," The Moon Song by StoryBots

The moon is bright and its rap's all right! When the sun goes down, it's definitely the moon's time to shine. The StoryBots are curious little creatures who live beneath our screens, offering a world of learning and fun for kids, parents and teachers.

2D Shapes

In maths we have been learning all about 2D shapes, today we made various 2D shapes using Geo-boards and elastic bands.

Project Based Learning - 29.1.19

After our amazing Geography and map work where we created a new and improved local area (with added things such as cinemas, hospitals and even a zoo!) we have now been asked to design and make a vehicle that would benefit Hawbush.
Today we did some research on different types of transportation and then collected and discussed our ideas.

Project based learning

We received a very special letter from Dudley Council asking us to help them improve the local area.
We went on a local walk to see what was already in Hawbush and thought about what we could add to make it even better!

Science
This week in our Science lessons we have been learning all about Everyday Materials.
Today we investigated which materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.

Times table paper chains

In Maths we have been working on our multiplication, focusing on our 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
Today we made paper chains in these multiples and counted them.

Gymnastics

In PE we have been focusing on Gymnastics and creating our own routines using movement, balances and rolls.
We worked in partners to come up with and perform some different partner balances.
Check them out!

Year 2 homework – 30.11.2018
In our Science lessons this week we have been learning about different food groups/type and why a balanced diet is important to humans.
For homework I would like children to come up and design their own healthy meal or menu.
They can present this in any way they would like.
Homework is in for next Friday – 7.12.18
Thank you for your continued support,
Miss Browne and Miss Matthews

Money!
All week in maths we have been learning about money.
Today we looked at solving problems using our monkey knowledge.
We had to make 45p using only silver coins.
How many ways can you do it?

Year 2 homework – Friday 16th November 2018
In Science we have been looking at Animals, including humans and life cycles.
For homework I would like children to create their own life cycle of either an animal or human. This can be done in any way the children choose eg: using pictures, words, drawings, paintings etc.
Homework is in for next Friday – 23rd November.
Thank you,
Miss Browne and Miss Matthews :)

Instructional writing

This week we have been learning all about instructional writing using time conjunctions, adverbial phrase and imperative verbs.
Today we made Paddington's favourite snack - Marmalade sandwiches!
We will use our experiences to write our own set of instructions.

A bear called Paddington

This half term we are reading A bear called Paddington.
To start our topic we had a special parcel delivered which contained some clues about our main character!
