Year 1
World Book Day In Year One!
Year 1 have had a wonderful day celebrating world book day! We have designed a world book day poster drawing pictures of our favourite character from our favourite book. We then created a world book day review and wrote some fabulous sentences about why we love the book we have chosen! We then had our picture taken in our beautiful costumes and even paired up with some of our book character friends for our photograph!
World Book Day!
Welcome to Year 1!
Year 1 have made a great start to their new project based learning topic. We are investigating the questions 'Where in the world is the most suitable environment for the animals? Why? We have begun to look at a map of the world and find out about different animals and their environments. We were very excited when a polar bear and giraffe visited our class with a letter from a zoologist and we have the task of helping animals to find a place to live.
In English we are reading the non fiction book 'The Emperor's Egg' by Martin Jenkins. We have enjoyed finding out about the lifecycle of Emperor penguins so far and have made lots of questions to find out more about these amazing animals.
In Maths we are learning to read and write numerals to 20 and are working hard to order numbers. We are also practising counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
This term our guided reading sessions are on Tuesdays and a Reading buddy also visits school to read with pupils. New reading books are sent home on Tuesdays for children to read with parents/carers so please ensure your child returns their book on this day so that they can take their new book home. New for this term, children are bringing spellings home weekly to learn and practise to help them with their writing.
The website to find out more about our approach to teaching phonics and videos showing how sounds are said is https://ruthmiskin.com/en/find-outmore/parents/
Also PE lessons are on Monday and Friday afternoons.
Thank you for your support,
