Spring 1
In year 3 our new PE topic is gymnastics. We have been using the apparatus in the hall to develop our skills. We have been balancing, forward rolls, backward rolls and linking movements together.
Autumn 2
How important was industry in the Black Country and what role did canals play in this?
We continue our exploration of canals in the area by looking at them as part of a geographical enquiry.
Class Book | The Iron Man came to the top of the cliff. Where had he come from? Nobody knows. How was he made? Nobody knows. Mankind must put a stop to the dreadful destruction by the Iron Man and set a trap for him, but he cannot be kept down. |
English | Descriptive writing - narrative Instructions Persuasion
Uses prefixes and suffixes and understands how to add them. Uses simple organisational devices (heading and sub-headings) in non-narrative materials to aid presentation. Confidently uses the diagonal and horizontal strokes that are needed to join letters and understands which letters, when adjacent to one another, are best left unjoined. Creates settings, characters and plots in narratives. Proof reads for spelling and punctuation errors in own work. Extends a range of sentence with more than one clause by using a wider range of conjunctions, including when, is, because, although. |

Monday 8th November 2021
In English, we looked at instructions for making poppies and thought it would be great to make poppies for Remembrance Day in the afternoon. Amazing work.
Tuesday 2nd November 2021 - Diwali
Today we looked at the Hindu celebration of Diwali. Diwali is the festival of light and Hindus mark the occasion with lanterns, lights and fireworks. We used oil pastels on black paper to make these amazing pieces of art.
Autumn 1
What was life on the cut really like in the past?
We will start the term with a walk along the Stourbridge canal to a nearby lock to see how the canal system works and to learn the vocabulary of the canals.

Friday 22nd October 2021
Today the children have been dressing up for Halloween. The boy and girl in year 3 with the best outfit were each given a fantastic prize. The winners were:
The children also got to have an amazing disco. Here are some pictures of them dancing and playing games.
A big congratulations to Poppy who created the winning design for our class pumpkin. She had a special session carving it with Mr Swainland and a friend.
We also performed The Boneyard Rap all dressed up in our costumes.
Black History Month
Year 3 have been talking about different issues to do with race during black history month. The person that we have studied in extra detail is Barack Obama. We have learnt about his life and also drawn sketches of him as president.
Thursday 21st October 2021 - Year 3 win the poetry recital competition!
Friday 13th October
Year 3 are really enjoying their music lessons and are learning some amazing new skills. Just look at them playing the glockenspiels!
We also visited the brand new library this week. Look out for the pictures that Mr Ross took. When we got back to the classroom, we finished pictures of our favourite books and made our library cards.

Our first week has been amazing! We had a brilliant walk along the canal and were lucky enough to watch a boat go through the lock as well as chance to open the gates ourselves. There was also lots of amazing wildlife such as herons and moor hens.
We also started our art topic by having our first attempt at canal boat roses.
