What a brilliant and exciting first week back . Reception have been  learning lots of new things. We began our topic “Growing and Changing”by reading the story of Jasper’s Beanstalk. This inspired us to plant seeds and then write instructions. We have been noticing the birds in the trees and so we decided to make bird food , paint beautiful pictures and write instructions how to make their  food. In maths we have been learning the name of 3 D shapes and are describing their properties. We have been using mathematical vocabulary like vertices and faces . We have worked so hard .Well done Reception!

                                                       Spring Term 2020

We are so proud of the children and the way they have quickly settled back into Reception routine after Christmas, showing independence and confidence . Our topic focus has been all about Winter. We have been on a winter walk and noticed the changes all around us. This inspired us to look athe paintings of Mondrian and paint and sketch winter trees. We are enjoying reading in our snowy reading area  . In maths we have been focusing on counting and addition.

                                                       Forest school

Every Monday we go to forest school. We are enjoying exploring the area, playing hide and seek and building houses for a woodland animal.

Art week in reception.

We have had a wonderful week in reception learning about the work of the artist Kandinsky.

First we found out all about him , then we practised using pencils to make concentric circles. Next we learnt about the colour wheel, mixing colours and finally we painted our own Kandinsky style paintings.

Maths

In maths we have been learning about positional language .  We have used these words when  playing outside on the a climbing equipment. Are you under, over, besides, next to , in front or behind ?

Reading and phonics.

We are very proud of the children’s progress in phonics and their independence in using the sounds they’ve learnt. Well done to everyone who has gained a sticker or certificate for reading at home .

Celebrating Diwali

This week we have continued our theme of celebrations and have been learning about Diwali.

First we listened to the story of Rama and Sita , then we made rangoli patterns and drew mehndi patterns on our hands.

We have enjoyed yoga in pe and are getting very good at balancing and stretching.

In maths we have been working hard to learn about subtraction , we have taken part in lots of practical activities , taking away objects and then writing simple number sentences.

We are continuing to learn lots of new sounds in phonics and working hard to write and read them. We are especially proud of the children who have stickers and certificates for sharing their reading book at home. Please check to see if you have signed your child’s book recently so they can be rewarded . Reading is the key to everything we do  and sharing a book is especially important! Please note children need book bags every day.
