25.1.21

This week our book focus is 'The Three Little Pigs'.

Activity One

Listening and sharing the story

There are two different videos for you to share.  The first video is a rhyming book of the three little pigs.  The second video has repeated phrases in the story for you to join in.

Can you listen to the stories?

Talk about the characters in the story.  What characters are in the story?

Talk about the events.  How does the character feel?

What does the wolf say?  (I'll huff and I'll puff and I will blow your house down)

Encourage your child to join in with the repeated phrases.

Activity Two

Making puppets of the characters

For this activity you will need some paper, cellotape and something that will hold your puppet upright.  This might be lollipop stick, pencils, sticks from the garden or straws.

Try to use items that you could draw around to create the shape of the animal  e.g a cup could be used for the pig's face.

Look below at some of the ideas you could create or you could print the templates:

If you have not got access to a printer and would like the templates, please let me know when I call next week and we can arrange a collection time from school.

Activity Three

Retelling the story

Using the character puppets that you have created, could you act out the story?

What does the wolf say when he wants to come in the little pig's house?

What does the little pig do when his straw house is blown down?

Use questions to support and help children recall the events of the story.

Below are some sequencing cards that may help with retelling and talking about the story.

Activity Four

Making a house for the 'three little pigs'

Could you create a house for the little pigs?

You could use a recycled materials, lego, sticks etc.  You may like to make two houses.

Talk about what is the best material to use?  Does it blow down?  Test it out.

Is it a good strong material to use?

Here are some ideas for you to try:
