This week our focus is Winter.

Activity 1

Winter News Sharing

Can you draw a picture of something you have enjoyed doing during the Winter holidays?  This might be a toy you have played with or something you have enjoyed doing outside in the snow.  Talk to an adult about the picture you are drawing? Who was there? What happened?

Activity 2

Winter Walk

We would like you to go on a winter walk. Talk about the things you see on your walk.

What signs show you it is winter? What is the weather like? Can you spot ice, bare trees, snow etc?

You could use the scavenger hunt below to help you find different things?

Could you draw things you have seen on your Winter walk or you could take photographs of the things you spot and send them in ?

Activity 3

What do you wear in the Winter?

Listen to the story below.  This is about a frog who is getting ready to play in the snow but he forgets some of his clothes.  Talk about what you wear in the winter and have a go at the activity.

Activity 4

Snowman Shape Craft

Watch the video to help you understand what a snowman looks like.

What shape is his body? What shape is his hat?

Building a snowman

Do you want to build a snowman? In this video we practice our counting skills as we roll snowballs and add features for a snowman. Count along 1, 2, 3! This ...

Snowman Craft.

Find items around your home that you could use for the shapes of the snowman.  Ask an adult to help you draw around these items and cut the shapes out carefully.  What shapes have you used? Then using felts, pens, and craft materials can you add the eyes, nose, mouth, hat and buttons to your snowman?

Look at the picture below to help.

Activity 5

Exploring Sound

With an adult fill up 5 different amounts of water in some glasses.  Then with a spoon ask the children to listen to the sounds they make.  What do they notice? Do they all make the same sound?   Ask your child to talk about the different sounds they make.
