Year 2 homework – Friday 16th November 2018
In Science we have been looking at Animals, including humans and life cycles.
For homework I would like children to create their own life cycle of either an animal or human. This can be done in any way the children choose eg: using pictures, words, drawings, paintings etc.
Homework is in for next Friday – 23rd November.
Miss Browne and Miss Matthews :)
This week we have been learning all about instructional writing using time conjunctions, adverbial phrase and imperative verbs.
Today we made Paddington's favourite snack - Marmalade sandwiches!
We will use our experiences to write our own set of instructions.
A bear called Paddington
This half term we are reading A bear called Paddington.
To start our topic we had a special parcel delivered which contained some clues about our main character!
Did you know that cows like to eat sweetcorn, vegetables, wheats but there favourite food is grass!
The cows sleep on straw and wood chip to keep them warm. We were lucky today because twin calfs had been born - how about that.
Thank you to everybody who came to our afternoon tea party - what a lovely afternoon! It was lovely to see the children with big smiles on their faces serving their guests Bean's apple cider, Badger's bites, Bunce's delicious doughnuts, Boggis's biscuits and Foxes frosty bites.
Today we visited the Hawbush Community Gardens.
We were greeted by Ken who gave us a guided tour of the gardens! We saw lots of different plants and he told us how plants got energy from the sun. The Hawbush Gardens give 80kgs of potatoes to the food bank! How fantastic is that?
Today Year 2 had the chance to meet a special visitor!
Her name is beast and she is a tortoise.
~Beast is 13 years old and lives with Miss Turner who works in Reception.
She eats lettuce, tomatoes, strawberries and her favourite drink is water. During the winter Beast hibernates and the longest she has slept for is about 1 month - can you imagine if you slept for a whole month!! To keep her safe Beast is kept in a vivarium during the day and in the garage at night.
On Friday 29th June you are invited to our 'Fantastic Mr Foxes' tea party. This will start from 2pm in the main school hall.
Refreshments will be served.
As part of our Science Topic 'Healthy Me' we are going to visit the Hawbush Community Gardens. We have arranged this visit on Thursday 28th June. We are going to be learning about healthy foods and how foods grow.
If you do not wish your child to take part could you please return the slip otherwise we will assume that permission is granted.
Thank you for your support!
Fantastic Mr Fox!
What a fantastic end to our half term!
In year 2 we have been 'Fashion Designers' for the day. We spent a day designing our own tshirts. We had to decide which animal print we would like to use to create our own unique design and used styrofoam and fabric paint to help us.
Hawbush 'Fashion Designers'
Next week as part of our art topic we are going to design our own animal print. If you could send in a plain t-shirt by Wednesday 23rd May, we will then have a whole day to complete this project. We are going to attempt to print our design onto a t-shirt and wear it for school on Friday. Please don't feel that you have to purchase a brand new one as any plain t-shirt will be fine!
Many thanks for your continued support!!
To-day whole school have had a special visit from the dogs trust. The children were educated about safety around dogs. They were shown how to keep safe and be aware of the signs shown when a dog is friendly. Anthea brought along a special visitor but I think you will all agree Hawbush have something a little more special!
Wow! Wow! Wow! What fantastic children you all have. Thank you to all the parents who came to the class assembly - it was a fantastic turn out.
This week our focus has been on reading. We have held a little competition 'Beat the Teacher'. The children loved this and couldn't wait to have their turn, and yes so far they have all 'Beat the Teacher'. We will carry on with this next week so that all the children have had a turn. We have also introduced reading buddies. Children from year 5 have been coming down to read with some of the children which is having a very positive effect!
Thank you all for your support as the children have really took on board this challenge. I have even had some valuable advice to improve my own reading.
'It's not all about winning, it's about perseverance' (Jordon)
'It's okay Mrs Didlick, if you practice at home you will get better- you just have to try your best' (Ashley)
Beat the Teacher!
What another fantastic week we have had in Year 2! We are so proud of the work the children have done yet again.
On Friday the 11th May we are having a class assembly (letters have gone out) which you are all invited to. The children are really excited about this and can't wait to show you what we have been doing.
As an incentive to encourage reading we are having a class competition. We are asking the children to read 3 books during the week and build up to reading 90 words in a minute. At the end of the week the children's names will be put into a hat and a winner drawn. Good Luck everyone!
As part of our White Rose maths we have been learning about measure. We went onto our school field and used a trundle wheel to measure a 100m. We then timed how fast we could run. Some of us used a metre rule and a ruler to measure things in our outdoor environment.
Here are some more pictures from this weeks learning - We hope that you like them!!

Welcome to Year 2!
What a lovely end to our week! Ken from Hawbush Gardens came into year 2 and talked to us about planting food and plants. Did you know that the food is donated to the local food bank?
We enjoyed his visit especially when we had the opportunity to plant something ourselves.
