Week beginning 11.5.20
Mrs Didlick, Miss Stone and I would just like to say a massive thank you to the children and parents who took the time to create the lovely video for us.
I don't think there was a dry eye in the house! We are deeply touched by the time and effort the children and parents have all gone to, it was a wonderful surprise!
What a wonderful school family we are! ❤️
Stay safe, we miss you all very much and we look forward to all being back together again when it is safe to do so!
My favourite thing about our class is how kind we are. One of our team is finding lockdown very hard and is feeling very sad and lonely! Can you create a 'We Miss You' picture to try and cheer them up. If you can send me a photo of your drawing by Thursday to year2@hawbush.dudley.sch.uk
You can use the colouring pages below or create your own design!
VE Day Celebrations
Take a look at the fun we had celebrating VE Day last Friday! There is still time to send in your photos to year2@hawbush.dudley.sch.uk

English
Lesson 1
WALT: understand the thoughts and feelings of a character by asking questions
Our learning this week is going to focus on the short film 'Cloud Lesson'. Before you watch the film make a prediction, what do you think the film will be about?
Watch the film below. Were you predictions right?
A Cloudy Lesson

Today you are going to interview one of the characters from the film. To do this you will need to ask them questions. Can you remember which words often start a question?
How many question words did you remember?
Think about what questions you might ask the boy or the old man in the film. Don't forget your question word at the beginning and a question mark at the end. Here are a few questions I would like to ask:
Who is the old man, is he your Grandad?
How did you feel when you broke the cloud blower?

WALT: identify features of instructions
This week we are going to be writing instructions.
I have written some instruction based on the film we watched yesterday. My instructions tell you how to blow a cloud. Can you read the instructions to an adult? Don't forget to sound out word you are unsure of. If you find it too tricky ask someone to read the instructions for you .
Below are the features of instructions. How many can you find in my example?
Can you create a poster to show what you need to include in a set of instructions.
Lesson 3
WALT: write a set of instructions using time words
Watch the video again. Can you give instructions to someone in your house on how to blow a cloud.
Grown-ups - Follow the children’s instructions exactly and have some fun with it. If they don’t tell you to blow into the cloud blower then blow in to the air, if they don’t tell you to take a deep breath then blow feebly. - don't move on until the instructions given are accurate.
Today you are going to write your own set of instructions. You can use the word banks below to help you!

WALT: design a weather machine and describe how it works using adjectives.
This week we have watched a film about a little boy and his cloud making machine. Your challenge today is to become inventors and design your own weather machine. Think back to our weather topic...how many different types of weather can you remember?
How many do you remember? What could you machine look like to create these different types of weather?
I love thunderstorms so I have designed a thunder drum kit! What do you think?
Can you see what I have used to describe my design?
adjectives - describing words for each part of my machine
conjunctions - joining words so that I can give extra details about my machine
expanded noun phrases - 2 adjectives to describe each part of my machine using a comma between each adjective

How did Christopher Columbus change the world?
Watch the video below to find out more about how our first explorer has changed the world. You might need to pause the video to have a think about some of the questions I have asked.
Please use the PDF or Powerpoint as I've had technical difficulties making a video this week

Outdoor Activities
Explorers like Christopher Columbus would have used the stars to help them navigate at night. Why don't you take a blanket outside and look up at the stars. What constellations can you see? Can you make up stories about the pictures the stars make?
