Lesson 1

WALT: sequence events from a story using time adverbials

The story has gotten all jumbled up. Can you watch the video again which picture shows you what happened first? Which picture shows you what happened last?

Can you use the time adverbials for each picture to tell the story in time order?

Your challenge is to retell the story. Choose how you would like to share your ideas. You could use a story hand, story mountain, story board or a story map. There are some examples below.

Have you included all of the key plot points?

• The girl is collecting water from the well

• Lights start to flash and the girl becomes afraid

• She drops her bucket and it becomes dark

• Suddenly, she is face to face with the creature – she lets out a gasp

• Then, she screams!

• The creature jumps backwards startled

• He hides behind a hill and looks around nervously

• He stands up and blows stars at the girl

• She is amazed and smiles

• The creature shows her a silver necklace and scoops her up

• He retrieves her bucket from the well and gives it back to her

• He disappears into the sky and only his reflection is left inside her bucket.

Lesson 2

WALT: create dialogue between characters using speech marks.

Watch the film again...it has no dialogue. We have to imagine what the character’s might be saying to each other. Can you act out the story with a parent or a sibling but include the dialogue. What are the characters saying?

Watch the video below about the rules we need to follow when using speech marks.

Lesson 3
WALT: Plan an adventure story using a story mountain.

Rewatch the film for inspiration. Today you are going to plan your own space story! What do you think is important to include a space story?

Can you think of anything else you might add?

Think carefully about the characters in your story? Will you have an astronaut? An alien? A planet that is alive? You could research about the different planets, what are they called? What are they like? This could be one of you settings.

Use a story map to help you plan what happens in your story.
