Ahoy there me hearties! We hope you have had a lovely half term and have kept yourself safe!
This half term we are off on another swashbuckling adventure as we ask ourselves the question:

Is a pirate's life for me?

When we are at school we always start off a topic with a bit of a bang...try some of the activities below, make sure you have lots of fun scallywags or I might have to make you walk the plank. Arrrrrrrgh!

You could even check out the link below for lots of pirate songs, games and craft activities.

WALT: extend sentences using expanded noun phrases and verbs

Remind yourself of the different word types we already know.

This week we are going to be focusing on writing descriptions. What was the setting in the video?

We are going to be writing a setting description of the underwater world inside the washing machine.

Watch the video again from 0:52-1:17 can you list all of the characters and settings you see for example I spotted fish that are made of socks and turtles made of hats.

Your job today is to gather vocabulary to describe the underwater world. You can create expanded noun phrases and choose appropriate verbs to describe. As an extra challenge I have used adverbs too!

WALT: write a description using our senses to describe

When we write a setting description it is important to think about all of our senses so that it makes the reader feel like they are really there.

Watch the video again. Can you write what you might be able to see, hear, taste, touch or smell. For example I could touch the slimy seaweed or taste the salty sea.

Today you are going to use the vocabulary you collected yesterday to write your own description the underwater setting in the film. What word types can you spot in my setting description?

What jobs would a Pirate do?

Take a look at the job descriptions below. Which job would you like to do on board a pirate ship?

You could research a little bit more about the jobs pirates did with a parent. Choose your favourite job and fill out a job application form!

You could take it in turns with an adult to carry out an interview. This is where the Captain would ask you lots of questions to see if you would be good at the job.

Science

Pirates love treasure! Why not grow your own precious crystals? You don't even need to bury this treasure to keep it safe because you can eat them! Don't forget to ask an adult to help you.

Outdoor Activities

Pirates aren't afraid of getting wet! Whilst the weather is lovely outside, why not have a go at this fun game!
